1) Brackets, Layout & Visibility

Shockoloza offers a wide range of bracket designs and colours so the fence can remain as unobtrusive as possible while still providing strong, consistent deterrence.

  • Typical installations: 5 to 7 strands of stainless steel wire along the perimeter wall.
  • Bracket type: hot-dip galvanised flat-bar brackets with UV-resistant insulators for durability.
  • Spacing guideline: brackets roughly every 3 metres; wires spaced at about 100 mm.
  • Height increase: effectively raises the perimeter by around 0.5 metres.
  • Consistent tension: stainless steel springs and spring hooks help maintain reliable performance.

2) Energiser Selection & Backup Power

The energiser is the heart of the system. Shockoloza uses energisers with proven performance in Southern African conditions and selects the correct output based on fence length, loading, and site conditions.

  • Domestic / industrial guidance: a unit around 6 joules stored energy and 4 joules max pulse energy is commonly ideal.
  • Non-lethal deterrence: powerful enough to deter intruders while remaining non-lethal when installed correctly.
  • Power failure resilience: a 12 V maintenance-free sealed lead-acid battery provides a minimum of 4 hours operation during outages.
  • Practical install location: close to the fence, mounted on a wall, under cover, and out of children's reach.
  • Alternative power: battery-powered and solar-powered energisers can be supplied where mains is unavailable.

We also consider earthing quality, lightning protection, and cable routing—because these determine real-world voltage and reliability.

3) Monitoring, Alarm Integration & Response

A fence is most effective when it becomes an early warning system. Monitoring can be integrated with an existing alarm panel, or linked via radio transmitter to a monitoring centre that complies with the by-laws of the South African Intruder Detection Services Association.

  • Immediate alerts: interference triggers audible and visual alarms.
  • Reset behaviour: audible alarm resets after about 4 minutes; visual alarm continues flashing until reset.
  • Better outcomes: earlier detection improves reaction time and reduces the chance of perimeter compromise.

4) Additional Security Integration

Your fence can be integrated with other security layers such as CCTV, infrared beams, and other advanced detection technologies—creating a more complete perimeter defence rather than relying on a single deterrent.

Legislation requires warning signs wherever an electrified fence may reasonably be expected to be touched by members of the public. Correct signage and compliant installation help protect you from risk and ensure your system meets the required standards.

6) Remote On/Off & Cut-Out Switches

Remote on/off switches and cut-out switches improve day-to-day usability and safety. They are especially useful for fault finding, maintenance, and isolating sections of the fence when work needs to be performed.

  • Key checks: ensure the fence remains free of arcing, verify efficient operation, and confirm correct earthing.

  • Site upkeep: clear plant growth and remove interference that could cause voltage loss or nuisance alarms.

We price based on your site layout, security goals, and the equipment needed to keep your system reliable and (where applicable) compliant. Here's what drives the cost.

1) Perimeter length & layout

Total metres to be protected, number of corners, gates, and split zones. Longer runs and complex layouts require more materials and labour.

2) Surface & mounting type

Wall-top, palisade, diamond mesh, or freestanding posts - each needs different brackets, insulators, and installation time.

3) Energiser size & power requirements

The right energiser depends on distance, fence type, and reliability targets. Power, surge protection, and battery backup (if required) also affect cost.

4) Security level & detection

Higher-risk sites may need additional zones, monitored gate protection, beams, sirens, strobe lights, or integration into an alarm panel.

5) Compliance & CoC readiness

If compliance is required, we check spacing, warning signage placement, earthing, isolation points, and safety requirements so the installation meets the expected standard.

6) Access, height & working conditions

Tight access, high walls, steep ground, or restricted working hours can increase labour time and equipment needs.
